Fun Deck Friday – Grunt’s-a-Plenty

Posted by The Masked Ameoba on March 21, 2008

So there has been some talk about an Orgrimmar Grunt’s deck that will crush your opponents.  While the meta has shifted some in recent days, OK shifted completely, I had built a deck to take advantage of the glut of control decks floating around, as well as to have some fun with a bunch of Grunts.

The deck itself is fairly simple.  Stall out and load up your graveyard with grunts, Thrall, and Goretooth.  Then Portal for a Kaal, Cannibalize your opponents GY, and bring everyone back into play and smash faces.

Hero – Morganis Blackvein

Abilites

  • 4 – Cold Front – Stall tactic to keep you alive vs Rush
  • 3 – Ice Block – More Stalling
  • 4 – Fizzle – Control aspect to stall opponent
  • 4 – Nether Fracture – More Control
  • 3 – Portal – Go get those allies you need
  • 3 – Cannibalize – Clear opponents GY and heal yourself up for the big finale.

Allies

  • 3 – Warlord Goretooth – Let your allies attack when you blow up Kaal
  • 4 – Bloodsoul – Early pressure as well as more bodies for Kaal to bring back
  • 3 – Skorn – Extra ways to win
  • 12 – Orgrimmar Grunts – the main bulk of your win condition
  • 2 – Warcheif Thrall – Make those guys you brought back even bigger.
  • 2 – Kaal Soulreaper – Big Win Condition!

Quests

  • 3 – Donation of Wool – Get Grunts/allies into the GY and dig into the deck
  • 4 – Donation of Silk – See Above
  • 4 – Donation of Mageweave – See Above
  • 4 – Solanian’s Belongings – Get back those abilities to keep your stalling going if needed.

So there it is.  A typical frost mage control-type build, with some big surprises for turns 8 and 9.  If you can’t get rid your opponents allies in the graveyard, you have Skorn there to help you finish it out.  Even if they have protectors there, you are still dealing the damage to the hero.  Of course, since it’s a fun deck Friday there are always some big weak spots, but lets look at the main match-ups.

Control

This is the match-up that the deck was build around.  Nether Fracture and Fizzle are there to keep your opponents from cleaning out your graveyard.  Control gives you time to get your guys into the graveyard and pop out the big bad kaal, and his brothers from the graveyard.

Rush

This match-up will need help from a sideboard.  Frost Nova’s, Greatsword of Horrid Dreams, or some low cost protectors can help with these match-ups.  The keys to the Rush match-up is to survive long enough to use cannibalize to heal up and get to the end-game.

Aggro

The Aggro match-up depends a lot on your Ice Blocks and Cold Fronts to stall out your opponents from attacking with their big mid-game beaters.  The rest of this match-up will rely on the same strategies as the other two match-ups, stalling out until Kaal comes to play.

Other Things to add -

Eternium Runed Blade – This card could do wonders in this deck, especially because those things brought back with Kaal would be certain to live for a long time, as well as being able to protect Kaal.

Greatsword of Horrid Dreams – Can be a great choice depending on your meta to help against Ferocity and Control.

Servants of the Betrayer Cards – There have already been some great cards spoiled for servants, head on over to wowtcg.com if you haven’t seen Invisibility yet.  The Blood Elf Frost hero could also be used for this deck, you will lose cannibalize, but you could gain Arcane Torrent and a more efficient use of Solanian’s.

That’s about it for this week, thanks for reading.

What are those Grunts doing in there when you can just tie the game up by playing Silvermoon Sentinels?

wouldn’t silvermoon sentinels kill yourself along with your opponent when they get mass revived by kaal?
