NACC – Predictions part deux

Posted by The Masked Ameoba on August 13, 2008

So Jeff had his turn at the prediction game. However from the comedy standpoint it was way better than anything I can come up with.  So instead of following that, I will go ahead and make some real predictions

Solo is not dead

Just like last year before Worlds, people are shouting from the rooftops that solo is dead.  There is no way it’s dead.  I fully expect some really good solo decks to do very well on day 1, and possibly even take the whole thing.  Yes there are more answers to solo now, but there isn’t that many, and they are mostly going to be in side-decks.  The right rogue or warrior could do some major damage at this tournament.  There are plenty of cards out there that are waiting to be abused.  *cough sweeping strikes cough*

Rush will be the big dog

Like they always say, when you don’t know the meta … rush rush rush!  With such a wide open meta, and a wealth of possibilties rush is poised to be the most popular of the types out there.  Whether it is paladin, shaman, druid or fire mage.  These decks will push right through many of the first gen control decks out there and make thier way to the top tables.  They are all strong decks and can dish out damage fast and hard.  Of course some of the top teams should have some nicely tuned control decks ready to go, and the canadians will have thier control, but the majority will be rush.  If your deck has trouble with it, be ready for a long day.

The Canadians will all play Paladin

There I said it.  They will also only use 4 quests in thier deck, all solanians belongings.  This will eclipse the 8 questers from last year.  I don’t know how they will do it, but I am certain they will.  Watch out.

It will be a larger turnout than expected.

With Worlds being across the ocean, many players who were planning on only one big trip this year will chose Gen Con instead of Worlds.  This is not meant to be a slam on the Worlds location.  There will be plenty of time for that before October, I am just saying it’s cheaper to go to Indy than Paris.  This should result in a larger field overall.  I am guessing somewhere near 600 players.

The meta will be very diverse

While I know rush will be the most popular archetype at nats, I think the field as a whole will be very diversified.  Other than Hunter I think most classes will be well represented.  The numbers will be something on the order of the following

  • 20% Druid
  • 15 % Shaman
  • 13 % Mage
  • 10% Pally
  • 10 % Warrior
  • 10% Priest
  • 10% Rogue
  • 10 % Warlock
  • 2 % Hunter

Does that add up to 100%?  sure, whatever.  It’s not like anyone really pays attention to math anyway.

Finally, my top 8 predictions

  • 2 Kilzin
  • 1 Desecrator
  • 1 Aleyah
  • 1 Water Elemental
  • 1 Bloodtusk discard
  • 1 Warlock control
  • 1 Halavar

Thats it.  My predictions for the continental championships.  Lets see how well we do.

Also a note.  While we won’t be doing the constant coverage like we were doing for DMF Columbus (we learned our lesson on that one), we will be trying to update over the weekend when we can with pictures and info’z and whatnot.  Especially from our Draft on Thursday night, and stories from the bounty tournament.  If you want you will be able to tell who we are at Gen Con, we will have our new wowtcgscrub.com shirts so look for the

and come over and say hi!

See you over the weekend!

Seems like a pretty solid percentage. More or less what I’m expecting – It’d be sweet if some hunter won it out… I mean came in second, I’m not playing hunter.

I’d guess a little lower for warrior and pump more onto Shaman. Keep in mind Shaman has a deck for both alliance and horde. Kilzin and Moala… ;)

    I’d rather play against Moala

    I like the shirt design!
Your predictions are pretty much in line with what I’m expecting too.
