Today I am looking at a card that isn’t getting very much press. A Servants card that just hasn’t been seen in any of the top decks since it came out.  I feel that it’s time that this card get its due and hopefully it can get some visibility.
That card is Form of the Serpent

Since servants was released I have been trying to find a use for Form of the Serpent.  At first look the card seems to have major problems, but with some careful use and combining the card with some other well known cards, this one may end up being useful.

Downsides

This card has some major downsides that need to be addressed.

1. First and for-most, it costs 3 to play.  In a fast rush deck you really want to limit the number of cards that cost 3 or more.  It is also very expensive for a form card, its nice to be able to have cheaper form cards so that you can get them on-line earlier.
2. As with any card that uses counters you are just waiting to be taken advantage of by ability destruction cards.  After a few turns attacking with your hero, one destruction card can undo all of that work.
3. The secondary effect only targets allies.  This makes it completely useless against solo decks.
4. The card is Traitor Hero Required.  There’s what, like only 2 traitor druids why the hell would I want to limit my hero choices like that?
5. To really take advantage of the card you need a good cheap weapon to smash along with it.

Upsides

Along with the downsides this card has some really nice upsides that can possibly push the card into some of the better decks.

1. The ability can remove protectors before the protect point and still give your hero the attack bonus.  If you have enough counters on it you can use the effect after your hero attacks (and you get another counter) and before the protect point to kill a protector.  The card will have no counters, but you will still be getting the attack bonus because of the wording of the card.
2. Playing other types of cards does not kill this form.  All of the other form cards will be destroyed if you play non-feral abilities.  This limits how much you can use cards like The Natural Order and Innervate because they would normally break your form.  Not so for the snake.
3. If you can build up counters this card can get out of hand quite quickly.  After you get 3 or more counters on it, along with a weapon you can be swinging for 7 or more each turn, which can end a game quite quickly.
4. The card is instant, so you can pop it on the end of your opponents turn to be able to more efficiently use resources on your turn.

Deck Suggestions

When trying to make a deck with this card here are some suggestions that may make the deck fairly good.

Twig of the World Tree – This card can be a great addition to any deck using Form of the Serpent.  Being able to sac a resource instead of paying the cost can get your big swings happening very early, along with allowing you to play other cards along with smashing.

Horde – Playing this deck with the horde gives you access to some of the best fast allies in the game.  With Rak skyfury this could allow you to do some big time damage in a single turn, along with building up counters on the Form.
